JEVS Human Services embarked on a capital campaign to construct a new building for Orleans Technical Institute, a program of JEVS Human Services. Orleans Technical Institute is a licensed and accredited career school that provides diploma and associate degree programs in the building trades, court reporting, and human services and is considered by many to be the flagship program of JEVS Human Services.
Previously divided between two separate campuses, the new school now unites Orleans Technical Institute under one roof. The new school, officially opened in Fall 2007, is already having positive impacts on its current and future students, the region’s network of employers, and JEVS Human Services as an agency. It provides ample room for existing classes, as well as new programs that will meet the changing needs of students and employers.
JEVS Human Services’ ongoing programs are funded primarily through government contracts from local, county, state and federal agencies whose grants and contracts do not allow the use of these funds for capital improvements or new capital projects. These restrictions on program grants and contracts are clear, and raise a challenge for JEVS Human Services to mount a campaign to cultivate funds from individuals, foundations, and corporations to build the new facility.
In building the new home for Orleans Tech, JEVS Human Services is also building its funding and donor base. This is the first time that JEVS Human Services has reached out to the broader philanthropic community for significant private funding. The success of this campaign will position JEVS Human Services to be even stronger in the future through a combination of public and private funding.
