2020 has been a tough, strange year. But what is certain and consistent these last few months is that JEVS Human Services, its staff and clients are still on the move. We keep making hope happen and working together to change lives.
This was demonstrated at our 22nd annual Strictly Business livestream event on October 7, 2020 (emceed by FOX29 meterologist Kathy Orr), where JEVS honored two inspiring individuals who have faced great challenges in their lives and found the strength to achieve their personal dreams and career goals, as well as an exemplary employer that hires JEVS clients.
In addition, thanks to the support of our sponsors, attendees and donors, Strictly Business 2020 was able to surpass its fundraising goal, raising $284,000. This brings the total raised through all 22 Strictly Business events to over 3.3 million dollars! We’d especially like to thank event sponsor Odell Studner and reception sponsor CVS Health/Aetna, Inc. Because of your generosity, we can continue to serve the most vulnerable in our community and “Get Philly Back to Work,” an important theme during the difficult times facing our region these days. Thank you!
JEVS Strictly Business event celebrated past JEVS Work Ready participant, Chanta, and JEVS hireAbility client, Stephen, with a glimpse of their journeys and how our job services/supports are helping them to fulfill their employment aspirations. Horizon Services was also honored because they have hired about 60 individuals from their go-to source of qualified workers: JEVS’s career training school, Orleans Technical College.
Stephen – Inspiration Award
Participant, JEVS hireAbility Program
Born with a rare genetic disorder known as soto syndrome, Stephen began working with JEVS to receive supported employment services. He let it be known that he wished to work at Shore Medical Center, where he had previously been placed as a student in a school-to-work program. The hireAbility team was able to make that happen for Stephen, who is currently thriving as “the Mayor of Shore Medical”.
Chanta – Inspiration Award
Participant, JEVS Work Ready Program
Chanta enrolled with JEVS last year to help her gain the extra skills she needed to be successful. After completing a customer service training program and armed with the essential knowledge she gained from the staff at Work Ready, Chanta earned a full-time position working in the ER department at Jefferson University Hospital. She is now in a wonderful place both professionally and personally.
Horizon Services – Business Leadership Award
Employer, JEVS’ Orleans Technical College
One of the largest residential service companies on the East Coast, Horizon Services has formed a partnership over the past five years with JEVS’ building and construction trades school, Orleans Technical College. The company looks to Orleans Tech as a preferred source of qualified and motivated employees, many of whom have advanced through the company from entry-level technician postions.
