QUESTION 3: JEVS will be providing a personal coach to each student enrolled in the program. How will the coach assist a student in completing his/her degree successfully? Explain the dynamic of the student-coach relationship.
A. A JEVS post-secondary success coach will support and guide you through the whole college process. We think that our JEVS coaches for this program are a key component to help students set and keep their pace throughout the program so they can earn a degree. Once you decide to enroll, you will meet your JEVS coach. The coach will help you enroll, process your financial aid and onboard you into the program. More importantly, the coach stays with you throughout your time earning your degree. The coach will problem solve with you on anything from financial aid issues, to not being able to find a quiet place to work at home, to understanding what a task is asking you to do.
Our coaches really care about our students. Coaches have organized study groups and work to accommodate people in the evening with phone sessions when students are off work. Coaches have helped a student that recently became housing insecure locate a new laptop as their current one was damaged at the shelter where she was living. We believe in our students and are here for them. We are lucky in that we work with students all across the Greater Philadelphia area (and beyond!) and serve an interesting and diverse group of committed students.
Coaches set high standards for their students. This program is rigorous and our coaches know that students have a lot on their plate. The JEVS success coach will help you navigate obstacles and make sure you stay on track to earn that degree. A high school diploma or some college is not enough these days. To earn more or get that promotion, you need a college degree. The JEVS coach guides you toward your college graduation.
