This year, JEVS Human Services is pleased to be sponsoring and participating in the 7th Annual Philadelphia Disability Pride series of events! A full week’s worth of activities, 2018’s festivities will include a flag-raising, sign-painting, art exhibit, movie screening, culminating in the annual parade/march and festival at City Hall on Saturday, June 16, 2018! According to Vicki Landers, director of Disability Pride Philadelphia, the week’s events are “a way that the disability community (and its allies) can come together to honor differences and ourselves in an inclusive and celebratory way.”
Intended to re-frame how people with disabilities are often viewed, the goal is to help change how many define ‘disability;’ bring together the Philadelphia community; help people with disabilities feel pride within a safe, positive environment among friends, family and peers; and promote and affirm that all should be embraced as a natural and beautiful part of human diversity.
For its part, JEVS Human Services and our affiliate programs, Supports Your Way and JEVS at Home, proudly look forward to the Parade, and encourage all to attend the week’s events. Feel free to march with us by meeting at the National Constitution Center at 10:30 a.m. on the 16th!
