TCY/OYA Program Director Nigel Bowe (center) with graduates Kaleb Wexler, Iquilla Hairston, Ameerah Pepples, Kassir Brown, and Edward Timmons.
The TCY/OYA graduating class of 2020 have been enrolled in the high school completion program for three to nine months, attending class four hours per day, five days a week. Each graduate had to complete 104 lessons ranging in various subjects, answer up to 3086 multiple choice questions, and complete four essays.
Participants were taught time management and problem-solving skills as they navigated through the program, all while balancing home life, work, and school. There were many class “huddle” sessions to share and discuss fears — each graduate vowing to push through so they could graduate on time.
This year’s graduates overcame countless personal struggles to get to this day of celebration and success. Their jubilant expression as they received their diplomas says it all, conveying determination, perseverance, and triumph. Congratulations, graduates!!!
