Starting a New Chapter: A JEVS Refugee Assistance Story

By Mariya K.

When Alex* came to JEVS, he had both a strong professional background and a powerful story of resilience.

In the Ukraine, Alex owned a successful kitchen cabinetry business. He built it from the ground up and took great pride in his craftsmanship and accomplishments.  However, when the war forced him to leave his country, Alex was faced with the challenge of starting over in a new place. Despite the uncertainty, his passion for his trade remained strong, and he hopped to rebuild his career in the U.S.

The JEVS team connected Alex with a trusted employer partner in cabinetry and set up an interview. Thanks to his skills and strong English, Alex was offered a job on the spot.

A few months later, Alex received a job offer from another company closer to home with higher pay. When he shared the news with his current employer, they expressed how much they valued his work and offered him a promotion as well as a raise to stay.

His story is a reminder that resilience, hard work, and determination can open doors, even in the most difficult circumstances. From business owner in Ukraine to respected craftsman here, Alex is building a new future.
