In recognition of National Autism Awareness Month, 102.9 WMGK‘s on-air personality Debbi Calton interviewed her son Dustin, who recently became a member of JEVS Philadelphia Independence Network (PIN). Through this supported living community, Dustin and his PIN friend Elyse talk about how they’ve transitioned to independence and are working to achieve their goals and dreams (such as Dustin getting a new job!).

And, Calton shares how JEVS has assisted her and her husband by providing the services and supports their son needs now that he is 26-years-old and aged out of school and government resources.

“Our issues are even more urgent,” she said. “How can my adult child live an independent life? A life that will always bring challenges. How do I keep my adult child safe, but also let them go into the world on their own without staying tethered to him or her. What a relief that there are organizations out there, like JEVS, to help navigate unknown territory.”
