Project WOW (World of Work)

Program Details

JEVS Project WOW (World of Work) is a FREE program that offers 24-weeks of skills training, job placement assistance, and GED test preparation to help individuals who want to get their lives back on track.

The program provides young individuals (18–24) throughout Philadelphia who did not complete high school with opportunities to connect to the education and supports that help them launch successful careers.

Think of JEVS Project WOW as a pathway…guiding young adults to take the next step toward a promising future. Students receive hands-on training in building trades (property maintenance and repair) or information technology (mobile/computer tech and repair).

Building Trades

Training in Basic Property Maintenance & Repair:

  • Building Weatherization: weatherstripping windows and doors
  • Carpentry: Framing, drywall, painting, door and window installation, tiling, weatherization
  • Plumbing: Installing a toilet, bathtub and sink, welding PVC, sweating copper pipe, installing a garbage disposal
  • Electrical: Wiring of receptacles and switches, light fixtures, including ceiling fan and doorbell
  • OSHA 10 Certification Available

Work with our Job Coach to begin entry-levels jobs as:

  • Carpentry, Electrician or Plumbing Assistants
  • Property Maintenance Technicians
  • General Contractors
  • Painting or Flooring Helpers/Laborers

Information Technology

Mobile/Computer Tech & Repair:

  • IT Fundamentals: Web Design, Linux software, cybersecurity, and Internet of Things (IOT)
  • Digital Literacy: Understanding of computers, the internet, email, search, and social media
  • Cloud Based Services: Using Google Apps to enhance collaboration
  • Computer hardware refurbishment
  • CompTIA IT Fundamentals and CompTIA A+ Certifications Available

You can enter an Information Technology Generalist Apprenticeship program, in which you can train for these types of job positions:

  • IT Generalist
  • Network Manager
  • Network Support Technician
  • Network Administrator
  • IT Administrator
  • Help Desk Specialist
  • IT Technician
  • IT Professional
  • IT Technical Support Professional

Program Services

  • Hands-on, basic training in information technology or building trades/property maintenance (such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical and weatherization)
  • Job search assistance with help from a job coach
  • GED preparation and testing fees paid
  • Weekly transportation allowance and incentives
  • Scholarship funding (for OTC, CCP, etc.)
  • Paid internships
  • Driver’s education lessons
  • Paid certifications like OSHA 30
  • Transpass support during follow up year
  • Team building trips, like Outward Bound
  • Trips to visit employers, colleges
  • Clothing/uniforms for work (like steel toed boots)

Eligibility

  • Philadelphia resident
  • No high school diploma (must have drop letter)
  • Must be age 18 – 24
  • Meet income eligibility requirements
