Chanta

Finding Her Calling

Meet Chanta

From a young age, Chanta has faced many challenges that only made her stronger. She is a dedicated and loving mother of 9 children ranging from 22 to 4 years old. Chanta doesn’t let anything get in her way or dull her spirit. Even though 7 of her 9 children are diagnosed with ADHD, bipolar disorder or autism, Chanta set out to move forward with a professional career.

She embodies positivity. Life happens, but she keeps moving.

Valerie Jackson, JEVS Work Ready Instructor

Chanta made the decision to enroll in JEVS Work Ready program last year. It had been 8 months since an injury caused Chanta to lose her job. She knew this program would help her gain the extra skills she needed to be successful. Work Ready provides a comprehensive set of employment-oriented services to those receiving Public Assistance benefits, including those who are in need of specific help managing barriers to self-sufficiency.

Through Work Ready she spent 4 weeks with a program called Five9 where she learned call center software, how to interact with customers and take after-call actions along with additional writing skills. With a little assistance, she was able to manage her home life and fight through her barriers as she worked toward employment.

Armed with the essential knowledge she gained from the staff at JEVS, Chanta earned a full-time position working in the ER department at Jefferson University Hospital. Being able to care for her family helped push Chanta and really put things into perspective. Not even letting a bout with COVID slow her down, Chanta is in a wonderful place both professionally and personally.
