Motivate H.E.R. Celebrates Its First Pinning Ceremony

What started as a vision to create a safe space for women has grown into a powerful movement of healing, encouragement, and transformation.

Motivate H.E.R. (Healing Everything Realistically), founded in July 2024 by Revena Washington, Peer Support Coach at JEVS Human Services and former participant in the JEVS Work Ready program, recently celebrated a major milestone with its first-ever Pinning Ceremony. The event recognized women who committed to their healing journeys while celebrating the strength, resilience, and personal growth they achieved along the way.

Beginning with just five women, Motivate H.E.R. has grown into a thriving community that has supported more than 300 women through healing-centered empowerment. The program creates a welcoming space where women are encouraged to embrace emotional healing, mindset renewal, and life transitions while building meaningful connections with others on similar paths.

Guest speaker Amber Key, JEVS Manager of Family and Wellness Education, shared an empowering message about taking ownership of one’s life.

“A lot of us live like someone else is pulling the strings. There will always be people who tell you how you should live. But you can control your beliefs, your attitude, your perspective, and how you talk to yourself.”

She also introduced the audience to the C.R.O.W.N. framework, offering five reminders to help women continue their journeys long after the ceremony:

  • C – Choose thoughts that empower you.
  • R – Respond, don’t react.
  • O – Own your circle. Be intentional about who has influence in your life.
  • W – Write your own story.
  • N – Never forget who you are.

Adding to the day’s message of empowerment, Lamara Parks, Workforce Development Coordinator for the City of Philadelphia, encouraged participants to remain intentional as they continue their personal growth journeys.

“Part of being HER is taking ownership of yourself. Sometimes that means being intentional about protecting your time, your energy, and your growth. Because when you are working on becoming the woman you are called to be, you cannot allow anything or anyone to distract you from becoming HER.”

Together, the speakers reinforced the heart of Motivate H.E.R.’s mission: empowering women to believe in themselves, embrace their healing journeys, and confidently step into the lives they are meant to lead.

At the center of the movement is a simple yet powerful belief: “I am worthy of investing in myself.” Through peer support, practical tools, and authentic encouragement, Motivate H.E.R. continues to help women overcome obstacles, pursue new opportunities, and rediscover their purpose with confidence and hope.

Through leaders like Revena Washington, JEVS Human Services continues to empower individuals beyond workforce development by fostering communities that uplift, inspire, and create lasting change. Discover how our programs can help you build new skills, achieve your goals, and create your own success story.

Work Ready Graduates Celebrate Career Training and Educational Milestones

Every graduation marks the end of one journey and the beginning of another. This year, 45 participants in JEVS Human Services’ Work Ready program celebrated an important milestone as they completed educational and career training programs designed to prepare them for meaningful employment and long-term success.

Earning Credentials for the Future

The graduates earned credentials through partnerships with organizations that provide opportunities for participants to achieve their academic and career goals. These partners include Beyond Literacy, Penn Foster, CareBridge Academy, and JEVS EduConnect.

Partner Program Graduates
Beyond Literacy Commonwealth Secondary School Diploma 2
Penn Foster High School Diploma 26
CareBridge Academy Certified Nursing Assistant Training 3
JEVS EduConnect Clinical Medical Assistant Training 14

Together, these accomplishments represent more than certificates and diplomas; they reflect perseverance, determination, and a commitment to building brighter futures. During the celebration, JEVS leaders congratulated graduates and encouraged them to continue striving toward their goals.

Looking Beyond Graduation

The ceremony’s keynote speakers challenged graduates to think beyond the credentials they received that day and focus on the opportunities ahead.

JEVS Human Services President & CEO Cynthia Figueroa reminded graduates that while commencement marks an important milestone, it is only one moment in a much larger journey.
“Today is just a moment, but the future is yours.”

Building on that message, Luis Gonzalez, Vice President of Workforce Development, encouraged graduates to keep growing long after they leave the classroom. “We encourage every graduate to continue learning, setting goals, and believing in themselves,” he said. Remember that graduation is not the finish line; it’s the beginning of the next chapter.”

Dr. Alberta Lloyd challenged graduates to recognize the effort it took to reach this point and to carry that same commitment forward. “Today we are here to celebrate your dedication to success. Take this success and build on it. Take pride in everything that you do, not just the big things but the small things too.”

While each speaker offered a different perspective, their messages shared a common thread: success is built over time through hard work, continuous learning, and the confidence to keep moving forward.

Building Pathways to Employment

The Work Ready program equips participants with the education, training, and support needed to pursue employment, continue their education, and build lasting careers.
