Making Hope Happen for Linda
JEVS Career Solutions for 55+ client Linda W. (right) was honored by the Mature Workers Task Force of Philadelphia. At left is 55+ Program Coordinator Yolanda Burnett, who was on hand to present the award to Linda.
Linda W. had been retired for ten years when she was diagnosed with lung cancer. But through surgery and treatment, she fought and won the battle, and she is now cancer free.
As she recovered both physically and psychologically from this terrible disease, Linda made a goal for herself of returning to work. As such, she got involved with MaturityWorks who referred her to the JEVS Career Solutions for 55+ Program.
To bring her skills up to date, Linda took advantage of workshops and trainings at PA CareerLink®, which included: Resume Writing, Interviewing Techniques, and Microsoft Series for beginners.
After Linda completed the job readiness workshops and trainings, she was assigned to be a Clerical Support Clerk (on-the-job training) for CareerLink, while continuing to attend additional computer classes. Linda was then able to successfully obtain full-time employment as a Government Support Clerk with the United States Census Bureau.
As a result of her successful experience in the 55+ Program and her extraordinary determination and perseverance, Linda was awarded the Outstanding Employment Participant Award by the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging.
Congratulations Linda!
